Today, the exhibition of the German painter and photographer Sigmar Polke will be opened in Vienna’s Mumok.
I’m really curious about it. Besides from being a great artist he seems to have a good sense of humour which can be seen in some of his “Capitalist Realism” pictures commenting on German culture and society.

Industrial Architecture in Essen
On the weekend we went with friends to the Zeche Zollverein, the once largest colliery in the world, now a Unesco World Cultural Heritage site in Essen, Germany. Built in the 1920’s , it’s a technical and architectural masterpiece.
Beautiful, but also a reminder of the dreadful price the relatively well paid miners had to pay for their jobs: deafness, nervous diseases, lung diseases .. you name it.
