Still no gas

In the current "gas-row" between Russia and Ukraine the European Commission's President Manuel Barroso is threatening legal action.

“I would like to convey a very clear message to Moscow and Kiev,” he said. "If the agreement sponsored by the EU is not honoured as a matter of urgency, the Commission will advise EU companies to take this matter to the courts, and call on member states to engage in a concerted action to find alternative ways of energy supply and transit".

Ok, let's sue them, but suing alone won't help much in the long run.
I think, the EU with all their countries should adopt drastic and far-reaching programmes for a joint energy policy with a strong focus on neighborly help and mutual aid and the expansion of renewable energy sources as well as the efficent use of the existent energy sources. And everything should be done to decrease the dependency from just one country.

Bravo! I think you are right. And suing will take time in the courts, while people need warmth now.
Again...very skimpy news coverage of your drastic situation here. I think that's partly because the greater part of the U.S. is challenged with a major weather event, plus the Inauguration is now only days away. Washington D.C. is supposed to be quite cold on Tuesday. But the good news is that no one has cut off the supply of fuel to the White House!

Exactly, lawsuits can take years!

I'm looking forward to Inauguration Day! Is it cold in your area as well?

I can't wait for Inauguration Day! I plan on staying by the TV most of the day.
We are having cold fog. That's it. Nothing like the central and eastern parts of the U.S. My cousin in Massachusetts called today; it was 7 degrees there.
I read in the paper today about Putin's comments regarding to the EU purchasing gas from Russia. It confused me a bit and made me wonder how payments have been made all along: by individual countries?
