Clouds in Vienna

"I am the daughter of Earth and Water,
And the nursling of the Sky;
I pass through the pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die".

This Percy Bysshe Shelley quote is one of many on the topic of "fleeting worlds" in the exhibition "Clouds" in Vienna's Leopold Museum.

An enormous crowd of artists seem to have made clouds central or at least important parts of their paintings or photographs. To create an exhibition around clouds was a fabulous idea. Hundreds of awesome cloud depictions can be seen by artists such as Caspar David Friedrich, William Turner, Claude Monet, Anselm Kiefer, Vincent van Gogh, John Constable, Gerhard Richter, Emil Nolde, Ansel Adams, Andy Warhol and many more.

The cloud photo below is from the roof terrace of the museum. We got a little cloud conscious after all those images.

Hurry up if you're in Vienna - the exhibition closes on 1 July, 2013!

Sounds like an interesting exhibit. I fear that I will miss it, however. So I'm glad you wrote about it. Love your photo. We were just looking at a bank of clouds last night on our way to Portland. It circled the entire valley and was amazing. Of course, in the heartland of the U.S. there have been all the tornadoes. I thought you would like to see a powerful picture of a cloud becoming tornado! here

I love clouds and wish I could have seen that exhibit, Francessa. Your photo is beautiful, and the kind of scene that would make you feel great even if you started your day feeling a bit depressed. :)

Thanks for the tornado links! Great photos! Fortunately, I've never come even close to seeing one for real! Glad you don't have any in Portland! Or do you?
