Kate McAlpine raps about the Large Hadron Collider, the groundbreaking particle accelerator that has been built in a 17-mile circular tunnel at the CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, and which goes into operation today.
And perhaps we wouldn't even be here without the CERN! In 1999, Tim Berners-Lee implemented the first successful communication between an HTTP client and server via the Internet with the help of Robert Cailliau and a young student staff at CERN.
