Happy Birthday, Lydia!

Within an incredibly short time she attracted a lot of readers by her
interesting, funny, moving, sometimes personal and always
thoroughly-researched blogposts, enriched by beautiful photos and videos.
And she writes so well! No wonder, she got several awards for this
outstanding work!

I've learned so much! About life in Oregon, Nevada, Reno, American ways of living and culture, about animals, books, National parks, politics, people. I even know what "ISH" means! And Wednesdays will never be the same old plain weekdays again, they've become and will continue to be Old-Postcard Wednesdays!

In addition to that she's always helpful, kind, thoughtful, considerate and
empathic in her comments and replies.

As I'm a person with a relatively tight schedule I cannot always read her
posts online. To stay on the ball I print them out and read them in the tube
on my way to work. In the meantime, more than 420 pages have accumulated! That's a BOOK, and not a small one! The collected works of Lydia! Hey, even my English might improve by this steady influence!

For all this, and because it's her birthday I thank Lydia now with some
virtual roses from my home village and an old Irish saying:

"May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you."

And as birthdays need some music, there's a little piece provided by A Fine Frenzy, The Minnow and the Trout (from the album "One Cell in the Sea"):

Francessa!
Your post was the first up in my "following" reader, so imagine my surprise! Thank you for this amazing birthday tribute, for the beautiful roses from your home village, and for the touching song. I had never heard of the group before, so while it played I brought up the lyrics for the full impact. It is SO special coming from my HS - - - and should be a world anthem.

Thank you for the surprise of the lovely calendar in the mail. Receiving that meant that your blog post was a HUGE surprise on my early birthday morning, because you used the Irish blessing as a common thread in your message on the package and here. Very lovely and very meaningful.

Dear friend, you simply must not worry about reading every post of mine from now on. I'm not as busy in my life as you are and that's why I post more frequently. And I am shocked at how many pages you've printed off. Shocked!

And I have learned so much from you, too, these months. I value these lessons and I so value our friendship.

I should have made my comments here short and written all this in an email, but.......too late now!

Thank you for everything, Francessa.
